Birth registrations are collected by the Registries of Births, Deaths and Marriages from each state and territory.

For fertility rate calculations, 'not stated' age values have been prorated across single year and grouped year distributions.The total fertility rate is the sum of the age-specific fertility rates, divided by 1000. The ERP of all females aged 15-49 is not a denominator.Births to mothers aged 15 includes births to mothers aged less than 15. Births to mothers aged 49 includes births to mothers aged more than 49.Australia includes Other Territories.
